Combat Submission Wrestling is a modern grappling art developed by world renowned MMA coach Erik Paulson. Based on the best training methods and techniques of the world’s strongest grappling arts, such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Western Wrestling, Judo, Sambo, Shootwrestling and Catchascatchcan; CSW is a “state of the art” grappling system. Founder Erik Paulson is a world renowned trainer, former two time MMA world champion (Shooto-Japan Organization), and has trained numerous world champions. Fighters such as former UFC Heavyweight Champions Josh Barnett and Brock Lesner, former UFC Lightweight Champion Sean Sherk, as well as many other highly respected veteran fighters, such as Renato “Babalu” Sobral, Cub Swanson, and UFC 1 alumni Ken Shamrock.
One of the key tenants of Combat Submission Wrestling is Sensei Paulson’s emphasis on training in a safe and intelligent manner. Through his P.P.P. (Protect your Partner Program), Erik’s philosophy is “your partner is your coach and you are your partner’s coach while training”. The idea is that if you injure or hurt your partner you will not have anyone to train with and chances are other students will catch on and you won’t have anyone to train with. Emphasis is placed on skills building through partner drills, equipment training, and a safe approach to live “rolling”. It is Erik’s belief that regular students and combat athletes alike can train intelligently, and intensely, without a lot of the injuries and damage to their bodies that is unfortunately commonplace in many MMA and grappling programs.
